Partnerships for Success (PfS) is an initiative of the Ohio Family and Children First (OFCF) Cabinet Council to build capacity at the county level to prevent and respond effectively to child and adolescent problem behaviors while promoting positive youth development. In May 2002, the OFCF Council selected Richland County as one of ten counties in Ohio to pilot Partnerships for Success. Winning factors in Richland County’s applications were our proven history of collaboration and our readiness to proceed.

The Richland County Youth and Family Council is responsible for implementing PfS in Richland County. The Ohio Department of Youth Services, working with the
PfS Academy at the Ohio State University Center for Learning Excellence in Columbus, serves as the state liaison. The Partnerships for Success initiative has developed in Richland County with a community partnership between the United Way of Richland County, the Richland County Vision Project, and the Richland County Youth and Family Council. Identifying community needs; assessing our community’s resources, assets, and risk factors; analyzing the gaps between our needs and resources; and developing and implementing a five-year sustainable strategic plan are the four cornerstones upon which Partnerships for Success is built.

Local support for Partnerships for Success is community wide. Over 300 individuals from within the social service community, education and health professions, local government, the public, clergy, and local colleges have participated in PfS since its launch in October 2002. State-level leadership for the PfS Initiative is provided by Ohio’s First Lady, Mrs. Hope Taft; Director Geno Natalucci-Persichetti of the Ohio Department of Youth Services; and Director Michael Hogan of the Ohio Department of Mental Health.
